What makes us different

Why Choose Aquamarine?:

There are plenty of decisions to make when deciding how to move a boat from A to B. A boat owner is looking for someone with a huge depth and breadth of experience in all manner of vessel management.
So many factors are involved that have a huge impact of the safe movement of boat and people.
  • The planning process
  • The safety of people and vessel
  • The possibility to learn along the way in a 'boat acquaint'
  • The enjoyment of the trip

After decades as an Officer in the Royal Navy, clear and concise Communication is the starting point and foundation to deliver these requirements.

Transparent planning
  • We’ll discuss the plans openly from the outset, discussing all the variables that go into the process.

  • We believe in an open pricing model so that you can see how it all comes together. A full estimate will be drawn up describing in great detail all the costs and overheads.

  • The original estimate is presented alongside the final invoice – and any significant discrepancies (up or down) will be explained. Generally, the constant communication maintained throughout the delivery means that no changes will come as a surprise at the end.

Passage Acquaint
  • Years of Delivery translates into a broad knowledge of the layout and functioning of all types of yachts. Many new boat owners enjoy this continuous acquaint on all systems of the boat, as well as sail tuning, navigation, meteorology, oceanography, hydrography etc

Regular Updates throughout the delivery:

We can provide:
  • Real time GPS tracking via satellite link to a list of people ashore anywhere in the world. At any time – they can click a link and receive an updated position course and speed.

  • Infinite (text or email) communication from the boat to those ashore, allowing updated ETAs, contact with loved ones and so forth.

Pre Departure Equipment Inspection
  • I will inspect any vessel for safety compliance prior to sailing. As a starting point - I rely on a boat having a correct fit of lifejackets, navigation equipment, safety equipment, VHF, life raft, safety lines, Marine Sanitation Devices, crockery/cutlery/pots, flares, airhorn etc – and this will all be discussed.

  • A sea trial will be performed before departure, if appropriate, to confirm proper operation of all boat systems including: Liferaft, sails and rigging, anchoring equipment, electrical systems, navigation lights, navigation equipment, wind and depth sensors, steering gear, fresh water system, black water system, electricity generation, galley equipment and general seaworthiness.

Post Transit Report

I am a qualified boat surveyor, but not practicing as such.  After each delivery I can include:
  • a short boat report (not a full survey) to detail: breakages, anomalies, suggestions and anything of note – with accompanying photographs and recommendations to support your maintenance schedule and maximize the safety and enjoyment of future use by the owner.

This is a ‘casual’ document, and in no way should be taken as a full survey.

Insurance

This is generally handled by the owner adding my name and the passage intentions to the insurance. I have insurance ‘skipper questionnaire’ forms already filled out for just about all the insurance companies - should you need them. I have been accepted by every Insurance company that has ever asked for my credentials.

Provisioning

If provisioning is required, I am happy to victual a boat and charge afterwards. The Caribbean and the Bahamas etc are notoriously expensive, but even when ‘storing ship’ there are vast savings that can be made with some local knowledge! Its important that we eat proper fresh food on board where possible.
